The Truth about Goats
The ‘Geneva II’ peace conference has reached a stalemate as the Lib Dem Peer has refused to show any remorse for widespread torture and execution. Despite Lord Rennard never having visited Syria or been part of the conflict, Bridget Harris (former advisor to Nick Clegg) would like him to ‘at least’ say ‘sorry’ for something…anything – so she can get on with the grubby business of suing him.
The three- year schism between female activists and Lord Rennard has resulted in Nick Clegg reaching a new plane of ‘ineffectualness’, Lembit Öpik looking ‘electable’ again and the death of more than 100,000 Syrians. Although Lord Rennard’s precise connection with Syria remains unclear, like most sex offenders he is conveniently unattractive, over fifty and ‘no longer’ of use to those in power. As one MP put it: ‘To be fair, he’s not exactly George Clooney. If everyone looked like Baron Wavertree I imagine all of sexual advances would be unwelcome.’
While US and Russian diplomats have tried to bring discussions back to the topic of Syria, the UN’s Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, has admitted it would be ‘unforgivable not to seize this opportunity’ to embarrass Nick Clegg. Even Mssrs Travis, Roache & Harris have dismissed claims that Lord Rennard had stolen their thunder and instead welcomed his refusal to apologise and commitment to ‘staying on the front page’.
Lord Rennard’s predicament has generated much schadenfreude, with Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad said to be relieved that someone else ‘is now carrying the can’ for alleged war-crimes. Despite not wanting to trivialize the displacement of one million Syrians, Channel 4 News emphasised the importance of Bridget Harris’ principled stand, the need to raise awareness of harassment issues and ‘coincidental’ nature of any subsequent cash bonanza.
