The Truth about Goats
The late Pope’s close relationship to Jimmy Savile has been unveiled through a series of intimate correspondence between the pontiff and the BBC’s branch of ‘light entertainment and kiddy fiddling’. So desperate to appear on the show, he would even make Savile a Knight Commander of St Gregory, claiming that the DJ’s ‘magic chair’ was a miracle on par with his own miracle of ‘hiding paedophiles in rectories’.
The documents show a rarely seen side of John Paul II, pleading to go on a rollercoaster with cub-scouts. One letter read: ‘Dear Jim can you fix it for me to spread aids throughout Africa through the wanton disregard for safe sexual practices…oh, and can I meet the Bay City Rollers?’
BBC’s Panorama claims that the letters show the Pope’s child-like imagination and confusion between reality and 1970’s special effects. As a Cardinal (Wojtyla), John Paul had long coveted a scapular – a small devotional necklace worn around the shoulders – inscribed with the phrase ‘Jim Fixed It For Me’. While Savile long desired a Papal knighthood with the small-print ‘Get Out of Jail Free’.
John Paul also sent wish-filled letters to Santa and the Tooth Fairy, in an attempt to stop the ordination of women. While Savile had his own views on an ‘original’ method for female consecration. However, historians agree there is no suggestion the Pope broke his vow of celibacy with Savile, as the DJ’s tastes were ‘slightly less than catholic’.
