The Truth about Goats
As tragedy unfolded in West London, those affected would have been comforted to know that the previous Mayor of London had sensibly spent £46m on an unfinished allotment – that for the same cost would have kept 10 local fire stations open. Sadly Fire Services took a tardy six minutes to reach the Grenfell Tower blaze, whereas Boris’ Garden Bridge could have been there in half the time…provided the Thames flooded first.
If anything recent weeks of terrorism and nursing shortages have taught us, it is that money is always better spent on a vanity project or shady private contractors – rather than public services. Or succinctly expressed in three little words, when Mr. Johnson advised a committee of fire safety officials (in 2013) – ‘to get stuffed’.
Thankfully no one was left wondering why millions were wisely spent on aesthetic cladding, rather than namby-pamby sprinkler systems. Said one eyewitness: ‘Thank God for Boris’ long-term vision; rather than the short-sighted demands of people hanging out of a burning building.
As a scholar of political history Boris often asks ‘What would Churchill do?’ in his situation…Churchill the insurer, that is. Water canon anyone?
