The Truth about Goats
While generally in favour of the controversial plan to give Turkey’s children a more religious and conservative education, the UK’s former Education Secretary said there was a missed opportunity to study the King James Bible. He also said that jihadist principles need to be more rigorously applied – with beheading a core subject, SATs for suicide bombers and honour beatings for anyone doing Media Studies.
Mr. Gove applauded history teacher’s revisionist approach – which ignored Turkey’s founding values – but would have preferred more modules on the Tudors and Stuarts. He also recommended academizing, by taking schools out of Local Education Authority and transferring them to the Islamic State; which provided a ‘slightly stricter’ dress code.
Turkey’s biggest teacher union, Egitim-Is, expressed concern that the Government was trying to normalize a word associated with war, intolerance and vandalism – but Education Minister Ismet Yilmaz said he would still use the name ‘Gove’. Mr. Gove insisted parents should ignore teacher’s warning about brainwashing and radicalizing students – after all, ‘people in this country have had enough of experts’.
Mr. Yilmaz said they would be using the UK’s Grammar School model, with pupils selected at 11 based on important academic achievement – like knowing when, where and how to vote for President Erdogan. Mr. Yilmaz admitted evolution theory would be removed from secondary education, but by embracing Mr. Gove’s ideas the chances of anyone evolving in the future was ‘very unlikely’.
