The Truth about Goats
Hi Flib Readers,
First of all, thank you for your long-running support. I’m just writing (in a non-funny way) to explain why we shut down during the UK election period. Why, you might ask? Surely, this is when we need satire the most. And you are right but we also need candidates to stand in elections. I’ve spent seven years writing for you, mocking elites and calling out hypocrisy. But this year I think the UK is at a crossroads. I could not in live with myself, if I did not take an active stance.
Ironically, I put my name forward for election but it was my satirical writing that caused me to be deselected at the 11th hour.
Subsequently I have been accused of terrorism, racism, being anti-patriotic – all based on assumption that satirical news stories are meant to be taken on face-value.
I’m not sure if this is a healthy precedent for our democracy. If we require our politicians to studiously follow a party-line or always agree on controversial issues, then we are asking to be lied to.
Whatever the reason – normal service will resume shortly.
Keep the peace
